Veterans, reservists and Quorum
Veterans at Quorum’s pulsing heart
Benefitting from the valuable experience of veterans and reservists, as well as providing rewarding careers for ex-forces personnel, has been at the heart of Quorum’s culture since we were established in 2000.
However, we’ve not all experienced in military service. Quorum is a well-blended team – comprising roughly equal numbers of ex-forces and non-military personnel. A team of professionals committed to understanding and caring about quality engineering, supportability in defence and the success of our armed forces. And, keen to bring the benefits of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) to non-military applications, outside the defence sector.
Veterans and reservists are at the pulsing heart of all our people, whether they have seen active service or not. Here’s why…
1. Armed forces friendly
Quorum is a veteran-led, reservist and armed forces friendly organisation.
We support and encourage other businesses to sign the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC). It’s our way of doing what we can to ensure fair treatment for all those serving or have served in our armed forces, and their families too. In fact, where our employees have partners in the forces, we have ensured the employee roles are home-based, when required.
Also, as part of our commitment, we actively participate in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). This means advocating for defence and the armed forces community. Inspiring others to do so too. And aligning our values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
Our approach is written in stone, or rather the Employee Handbook. Where you’ll see that veterans and reservists are entitled to extra leave to fulfil their training and deployment commitments.
It’s good for our clients too because it strengthens common values that we already share with ex-forces staff. Values which underpin the quality of our work. Such as, positivity, teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, discipline and a can-do approach. Values which we believe make us easier for our clients to work with.
Also, many veterans and reservists have experienced ILS in the field, not just on paper. Sadly, they’ve probably had to deal with examples of supportability engineering failures on the frontline. But this does give them an intrinsic understanding of the role rigorous supportability engineering plays in protecting our forces, as well as our assets.
2. Supporting veteran charities
We care about supporting veterans through charitable work too, for organisations such as Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion and Combat Stress (Quorum’s official charity for 2022).
In fact, the Quorum team are already busy preparing to participate in the Royal British Legion Poppy Ride in June this year. With a running competition planned at Silverstone for Combat Stress in the Autumn. More information to follow on that one. But let us know if you want to get involved or would like our team to support you in any of your veteran charity endeavours.
3. Been there, done it and got the tee-shirt.
The transition between leaving the forces and embarking on a civilian career can be daunting. But there are lots of veterans and reservists, as well as armed forces friendly people in our team.
We’re keen to help. After all many of us have walked the same road. We want to do what we can to provide leavers with new and exciting career opportunities, as well as support them through the process.
To help ex-forces personnel make their best next step we have a permanent job advert on the Career Transition Partnership website.
Plus, we offer a ‘no strings attached’ job placement scheme. This enables service leavers to effectively ‘try before you buy’. A chance to dip your toe in the water and experience life as a Quorum ILS engineer.
Also, we provide free guidance for any service leaver that would like an informal chat with one of us that has already been through the process of returning to civilian life. We may have been there and done it, but this time it could be about finding the perfect tee-shirt to fit you?
