Inside our employee ownership trust
Want to look inside our Employee Ownership Trust (EOT)? It’s over a year since Quorum chose to become an EOT, inspired by the example of The John Lewis Partnership, amongst others. We set out to bring the many benefits of an EOT model to an Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Professional Services environment.
A wise decision? Here, Quorum’s EOT Board reflect on the EOT’s achievements to date
More performance
Ian Rees, Commercial & Finance Director, explains,
“Without a doubt, ILS consultancy service provision means our people will always be the face of our service delivery. But now, inside our employee ownership trust, they’re more engaged and committed to raising their performance on every front. Not just on their immediate project work, but across the whole of the business!”
“By giving employees a clear stake in the business they have more of a vested interest in delivering successful projects. Subsequently, developing their own skillsets and driving growth. There are potential success-linked rewards and tax advantages when bonus schemes kick in too. Plus, an inherent desire to grow the business and grow with the business.”
“With employee ownership, they’re more engaged and committed to raising their performance on every front.”
More talent
Trevor Hirst, Operations Director, adds,
“World tensions are understandably increasing the demand for robust support engineering. In fact, specialist ILS skills are getting tougher to find. However, being an employee ownership trust has put Quorum in a much stronger position when it comes to recruiting, developing and retaining the ILS specialisms we and our clients are looking for.”

“It’s exciting to see the drive to excel, throughout Quorum, since becoming an EOT. Everyone has worked hard to harness and encourage this. Undeniably, we’ve learnt a lot this year and although we didn’t get everything right at the outset, we’ve been able to adjust and improve. This means the whole team is empowered to influence how we deliver our mission of support engineering for the toughest challenges.”
More rewards
Glenn Symington, Employee Representative Director (ERD), agrees,
“The opportunities offered by being part of an EOT was a key reason why I moved over from contracting for Quorum to take a permanent role with the team last year. I haven’t looked back.”
“In fact, I’m not alone in seeing the many longer-term advantages of developing my career with an EOT. We’ve recently onboarded five new staff drawn by the benefits and accountability of Employee Ownership. This also includes our new EOT Non-Executive Director (NED) and Defence Industry strategy expert, Mike Pope.”

More potential
Mike responds,
“As the NED I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help this exciting and focused business harness even more potential through the capabilities they offer to Defence, as well as other sectors. Although becoming an EOT hasn’t changed the culture of the business, with Quorum I’ve been struck by how much it’s strengthened its core values and capabilities. You can feel a refreshing energy across the team.”
He concludes, “Employee ownership has unleashed much of what was already under the bonnet and in doing so is attracting more great talent and potential into the fold.”
