ARM (AVAILABILITY, RELIABILITY AND MAINTAINABILITY)
ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT
The aim of the ARM activities during the development process is to ensure that the design meets the required operational performance targets.
Availability is defined as ‘the ability of an item to be in a state to perform a required function under given conditions at a given instant of time or over a given time interval, assuming that the required external resources are provided.’
Reliability is defined as ‘the ability of an item to perform a required function under stated conditions for a given time.’
Maintainability is defined as ‘the ability of an item, under stated conditions of use, to be retained in, or restored to, a state in which it can perform a required function, when maintenance is performed under given conditions using stated procedures and resources.’
