Twenty Years of Quorum, so lets ‘meet the team’………..

Ian Rees (Commercial & Finance Director)

After growing up in South Wales and Gloucestershire, I joined the Army as an apprentice at the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Apprentice College in Arborfield, Berkshire at the age of sixteen. During my adult career of 20 years I served mainly in Germany with a tour of Canada, Northern Ireland and Kuwait as part of the tri-service Kuwait Liaison Team. My two young sons also lived in Kuwait with me and it was a unique and wonderful experience for them. I try to brush up on my Arabic language when I can but am a little rusty.

Post my military career I joined a management consultancy in the South East but worked within MoD for over a year. I then joined GKN Defence in Telford, initially as a training analyst before moving into the supportability domain, working on several military projects, training engineers in the Middle East and using my Arabic language experience to support training lessons.

I founded Quorum in September 2000 and it is hard to believe that it has been another 20 years doing a job that I’m passionate about and working with our acclaimed team of consultants supporting our clients.

Whilst at Quorum I acquired an Equestrian Centre and Bed and Breakfast in 2006. Any spare time was spent on the yard, in the paddocks and in the B&B which also provided dinner. My horse riding (when I had time) and culinary skills certainly improved.

Having sold the Equestrian Centre, I now live near Telford. A fully refurbished home is underway and is making slow progress. My love of playing the guitar, saxophone and drums has now taken the place of equestrian activities, again, when I have time, although I do miss my tractor!
