Less constraints and more ILS ‘Can Do’

Are you ready to celebrate stepping into another year of constraints?

If not, you may need more ILS ‘Can Do’. Constraints can make a positive difference to your work, and your life, whatever the challenge. It’s a not only a matter of perspective, but also experience.

Here’s how to make 2022 your best year yet…

Sort the devilish detail

You’d expect ILS professionals and supportability engineers to argue that the devil is in the detail. And, when it comes to bottoming-out design, build and operational constraints it certainly is. For example, when you’re considering long-term durability of product materials, or their potential availability, it makes sense to ensure you have the methods and experience to understand the constraints you’re dealing with upfront. Right?

Yes… however, it’s also important to ensure you don’t lose sight of the detail as projects or programmes progress. Once you’ve created solutions to supportability constraints, make sure your ILS thinking is fully integrated with the implementation of your system design, to identify new hurdles and ensure expectations are managed effectively.

In fact, keep a careful eye on existing and emerging constraints, through your change management approach, if you want to keep a handle on project risk and optimise project performance.

Fuelling innovation with constraints

But don’t think of constraints as dull and negative. Instead, celebrate the excitement they bring!

Although, the word suggests rigidity, limitations can unleash bright thinking with amazing results. Obstacles make us do things differently. They can provide the catalyst which transforms what we do from ordinary to extraordinary.

To navigate challenges work with partners who are not only experienced, but creative and pragmatic too.

Have you tried looking to other industries for solutions? This is one way we accelerate the process of finding alternative ways of delivering the end goal while maintaining the schedule.

Restrictions have fuelled innovation throughout history.

Most of us know how easy it can be to miss the simple answer, especially with mounting commercial and time pressures. But why keep doing things the same way? Remember Einstein’s definition of insanity? Are you doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Constraints can open your mind to doing things differently, so you’ll potentially achieve much more than you ever expected.

COVID has created a ‘can do’ pandemic

So, maybe 2022 is the time to harness a more ‘can do’ approach?

We certainly think so!

We’ve all had to do things differently due to COVID 19 restrictions. And the good news is that you’ve probably already adopted more ‘can do’ behaviour at work, as well as at home.

With two years under the belt of globally responding to unexpected and often variable constraints we’re all seeing a lot of positives in the ‘next normal’.

For example, today Quorum’s ILS consultancy has access to a much wider talent pool. As we operate hybrid and remote working models, we can now utilise skills irrespective of location. We’re not only recruiting nationally and even further afield, but we’re also grown our associate network and developed performance enhancing collaborations.

Similarly, we are now providing ‘virtual’ ILS training. So, there is no need to risk your project failing due to knowledge gaps, wherever you are in the world.

We’re spending less time travelling to client sites, and more time delivering work to clients. Plus, we’re significantly reducing our carbon footprint. In fact, rather than thinking before we print, the reason for printing often escapes us.

Get the job done with a winning ILS partner

Large changes, or small changes it’s the capability to respond and change which is key. Understanding and overcoming constraints with a ‘can do’ attitude instils confidence, promotes positivity and helps get the job done.
